Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL)
The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) has been delivering essential veterinary care and protecting animal welfare since 1956.
As South Africa’s second-largest independent animal welfare organisation, AACL relies entirely on fundraising initiatives and the generosity of the public to continue providing critical veterinary services to animals in need.
Funds raised directly support our Cape Town branches in Epping and Bellville, where fully operational veterinary clinics and hospitals provide high-quality medical treatment, surgeries, sterilisation procedures, and emergency care. These facilities play a vital role in treating sick, injured, and abused animals, many of whom would otherwise have no access to veterinary assistance.
In addition to our fixed clinics, AACL operates mobile veterinary clinics that extend lifesaving care into underprivileged communities within our service areas. These mobile clinics provide accessible and affordable veterinary services, including basic healthcare, vaccinations, sterilisation, and parasite control, helping to prevent the spread of disease, reduce overpopulation, and improve the overall wellbeing of animals in communities where veterinary care is often unattainable.
Our veterinary work is closely linked to our adoption centres at both the Epping and Bellville branches. Animals receive thorough medical assessments and ongoing treatment before being placed up for adoption, ensuring they are healthy and ready for loving forever homes.
Fundraising is essential in allowing AACL to maintain these veterinary services and continue serving both animals and the communities that care for them.
At the heart of AACL is a dedicated team of veterinarians, nurses, and animal care professionals who are committed to compassionate, ethical, and professional veterinary care.
Every animal treated by AACL is given dignity, relief from suffering, and the opportunity for a healthier future.
Beyond Cape Town, AACL supports animal welfare on a national level through branches in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Ladysmith, and the farming community of Bredasdorp—extending vital veterinary services and community support across South Africa.
